Administrative and Municipal Status
Within the framework of administrative divisions, Veliky Ustyug serves as the administrative center of Velikoustyugsky District, even though it is not a part of it. As an administrative division, it is, together with the town of Krasavino and the work settlement of Kuzino, incorporated separately as the town of oblast significance of Veliky Ustyug (one of the four in the oblast)—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts. Within the framework of municipal divisions, Veliky Ustyug, Krasavino, and Kuzino are separately incorporated within Velikoustyugsky Municipal District as, correspondingly, Veliky Ustyug Urban Settlement, Krasavino Urban Settlement, and Kuzino Urban Settlement.
