Crimes

11 May 1993 - Alan George Edward Lampard (32) was found murdered in the parklands, believed to be a gay hate crime. Lampard was killed after being bashed on the head. His body was recovered from a pond.

8 December 2004 - A passer-by discovered the murdered body of 36 year old Robert Woodland in the long grassy areas of the gardens, who had died as a result of being assaulted. Woodland was one of two men who had informed Parliament Speaker Peter Lewis of the activities of a serving politician who allegedly frequented Veale Gardens, participating in an alleged Adelaide paedophile sex ring during the 1980s and 1990s.

Famous quotes containing the word crimes:

    ‘Tis no sin love’s fruit to steal;
    But the sweet theft to reveal,
    To be taken, to be seen,
    These have crimes accounted been.
    Ben Jonson (1572–1637)

    The Laws of Nature are just, but terrible. There is no weak mercy in them. Cause and consequence are inseparable and inevitable. The elements have no forbearance. The fire burns, the water drowns, the air consumes, the earth buries. And perhaps it would be well for our race if the punishment of crimes against the Laws of Man were as inevitable as the punishment of crimes against the Laws of Nature—were Man as unerring in his judgments as Nature.
    Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807–1882)

    At the bottom of the heart of every human being, from earliest infancy until the tomb, there is something that goes on indomitably expecting, in the teeth of all experience of crimes committed, suffered, and witnessed, that good and not evil will be done to him. It is this above all that is sacred in every human being.
    Simone Weil (1909–1943)
