Creation
The district was created on 1 April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 by merging Northwich and Winsford urban districts, Northwich Rural District and part of Runcorn Rural District.
It took its name from Vale Royal Abbey, formerly one of the largest in England, which was situated near the village of Whitegate near the centre of the district.

Famous quotes containing the word creation:
“The private detective of fiction is a fantastic creation who acts and speaks like a real man. He can be completely realistic in every sense but one, that one sense being that in life as we know it such a man would not be a private detective.”
—Raymond Chandler (18881959)
“Humility like darkness reveals the heavenly lights. The shadows of poverty and meanness gather around us, and lo! creation widens to our view.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“She sings as the moon sings:
I am I, am I;
The greater grows my lift
The further that I fly.
All creation shivers
With that sweet cry.”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
