USS Wichita

Two ships of the United States Navy have been named USS Wichita, after the city of Wichita, Kansas.

  • The first Wichita (CA-45) was a heavy cruiser commissioned in 1939 and active in World War II.
  • The second Wichita (AOR-1) was a replenishment oiler in service from 1969 to 1993; technically AOR-1 was named for both the city and the Wichita River.
