In the rock mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, director Rob Reiner portrayed himself as Martin DeBergi, and during several scenes, wore a USS Coral Sea ballcap. However the letters were altered as it read "USS Ooral Sea OV-43".
Pop radio presenter Emperor Rosko got his first opportunity to broadcast whilst in the US Navy where he presented a show on the Coral Sea, using the name Michael Prescott.
