Safety
Uranyl acetate is both radioactive and toxic. Normal commercial stocks prepared from depleted uranium have a typical radioactivity of 0.37 - 0.51 µCi/g. This is a very mild level of radioactivity and is not sufficient to be harmful while the material remains external to the body.
Uranyl acetate is very toxic if ingested, inhaled as dust or by skin contact if skin is cut or abraded. The toxicity is due to the combined effect of chemical toxicity and mild radioactivity and there is a danger of cumulative effects from long term exposure.

Famous quotes containing the word safety:
“Perhaps having built a barricade when youre sixteen provides you with a sort of safety rail. If youve once taken part in building one, even inadvertently, doesnt its usually latent image reappear like a warning signal whenever youre tempted to join the police, or support any manifestation of Law and Order?”
—Jean Genet (19101986)
“Can we not teach children, even as we protect them from victimization, that for them to become victimizers constitutes the greatest peril of all, specifically the sacrificephysical or psychologicalof the well-being of other people? And that destroying the life or safety of other people, through teasing, bullying, hitting or otherwise, putting them down, is as destructive to themselves as to their victims.”
—Lewis P. Lipsitt (20th century)
“For hours, in fall days, I watched the ducks cunningly tack and veer and hold the middle of the pond, far from the sportsman;... but what beside safety they got by sailing in the middle of Walden I do not know, unless they love its water for the same reason that I do.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
