Famous quotes containing the word purpose:
“We need not only a purpose in life to give meaning to our existence but also something to give meaning to our suffering. We need as much something to suffer for as something to live for.”
—Eric Hoffer (19021983)
“Man, her last work, who seemed so fair,
Such splendid purpose in his eyes,
Who rolled the psalm to wintry skies,
Who built him fanes of fruitless prayer,
Who trusted God was love indeed
And love Creations final law
Though Nature, red in tooth and claw
With ravine, shrieked against his creed”
—Alfred Tennyson (18091892)
“The strongest wind cannot stagger a Spirit; it is a Spirits breath. A just mans purpose cannot be split on any Grampus or material rock, but itself will split rocks till it succeeds.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
