Upland Football
Upland High's varsity football team is one of the most successful teams in southern section CIF. Many players have received D-1 scholarships and a handful have even played in the NFL. Coach Tim Salter, entering his 18th year as head coach, has led the Highlanders to 3 CIF southern section championships in 1995, 2000, and 2009, and a controversial loss in the 1999 championship game. In 2009, Edin Mahina brought the "Haka", a Polynesian war dance, to Upland which has now become a tradition after big games. Upland's traditional rival Claremont has transferred out of the the Baseline League leaving the Los Osos Grizzlies, the Alta Loma Braves, the Rancho Cucamonga Cougars, the Etiwanda Eagles, and the Glendora Tartans as Upland's primary competitors.

“... in the minds of search committees there is the lingering question: Can she manage the football coach?”
—Donna E. Shalala (b. 1941)
