History
One of the earliest explorations of the concept of the combat drone was by Dr. Lee De Forest an early inventor of radio devices, and U.A. Sanabria, a TV engineer. They presented their idea in an article in a 1940 publication. In the 1980s, Iran used a simple drone capable of holding six RPG-7 rounds in combat in the Iran-Iraq War. This was the first time a combat drone was used in war. The US has recently (in the past few years) accelerated its use of UCAVs in Pakistan as part of the War on Terrorism.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“A great proportion of the inhabitants of the Cape are always thus abroad about their teaming on some ocean highway or other, and the history of one of their ordinary trips would cast the Argonautic expedition into the shade.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Philosophy of science without history of science is empty; history of science without philosophy of science is blind.”
—Imre Lakatos (19221974)
“No one can understand Paris and its history who does not understand that its fierceness is the balance and justification of its frivolity. It is called a city of pleasure; but it may also very specially be called a city of pain. The crown of roses is also a crown of thorns. Its people are too prone to hurt others, but quite ready also to hurt themselves. They are martyrs for religion, they are martyrs for irreligion; they are even martyrs for immorality.”
—Gilbert Keith Chesterton (18741936)
