Governance
The President of the University is James B. Milliken, J.D., who succeeded L. Dennis Smith in 2004. Members of the Board of Regents are:
- Tim Clare District 1 in the Lincoln area
- Howard Hawks District 2 in greater Omaha
- Charles Hassebrook District 3 in northeastern Nebraska
- Robert Whitehouse District 4 in the Omaha area
- Jim McClurg District 5 in southeast Nebraska, including part of Lincoln
- Kent Schroeder District 6 in central Nebraska,
- Bob Phares District 7 in western Nebraska (Mr. Phares became a regent when former board member Dave Hergert was convicted on impeachment charges for campaign finance violations and removed from office by the Nebraska Supreme Court on July 7, 2006)
- Randolph Ferlic District 8 in the Omaha area
- Amber Lewis, representing the students of the University of Nebraska at Kearney
- Emily Zimmer, representing the students of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- Jonathan Henning, representing the students of the University of Nebraska Medical Center
- Alex Williams, representing the students of the University of Nebraska at Omaha
