Research

Interdisciplinary research and a university-wide infrastructure are complemented by an array of research programs that are not included in the Excellence Clusters and collaborative research centers. They give innovative impulse and provide a necessary amount of flexibility and adjustment that keeps the academic research area at its excellent level. Singular disciplinary research programs are also a highly valued mechanism for adapting the exploratory focus onto emerging developments within the science and overall research areas. Scientists who are involved in their own scientific projects draw about 30 percent of third-party funds within the University. To keep the basis for individual research programs is not only essential for academic freedom but also the essence for continuous innovations within the exploratory focus. Furthermore, it secures the common ground for science and teaching as a whole. Scientists who have set their individual research focus use in parts the platforms and networks that were established for Collaborative Research Centers. By doing so, they are valued impulse-givers for inter-disciplinary partnerships. Therefore, individual research programs are a significant mainstay of our University.

Famous quotes containing the word research:

... research is never completed ... Around the corner lurks another possibility of interview, another book to read, a courthouse to explore, a document to verify.
    Catherine Drinker Bowen (1897–1973)

I did my research and decided I just had to live it.
Karina O’Malley, U.S. sociologist and educator. As quoted in the Chronicle of Higher Education, p. A5 (September 16, 1992)

Feeling that you have to be the perfect parent places a tremendous and completely unnecessary burden on you. If we’ve learned anything from the past half-century’s research on child development, it’s that children are remarkably resilient. You can make lots of mistakes and still wind up with great kids.
    Lawrence Kutner (20th century)
