University of Connecticut Health Center - Research

Research

The Health Center recruits distinguished researchers with expertise in neuroscience, molecular biology, molecular pharmacology, biochemistry, cell physiology, toxicology, and endocrinology, among other fields. The Alcohol Research Center is one of only fourteen such federally supported centers in the nation; the Connecticut Clinical Chemosensory Research Center is one of five.

In 2010, the university established the Cell and Genome Sciences Building, which includes its new Stem Cell Institute as well as cell biology and genetics research in its Center for Cell Analysis and Modeling and Department of Genetics and Developmental Biology. The new center allows UConn scientists to work in a cross-disciplinary, collaborative setting in stem cell research and accelerate discoveries that ultimately could lead to therapies treating a broad range of diseases and disorders.

Famous quotes containing the word research:

One of the most important findings to come out of our research is that being where you want to be is good for you. We found a very strong correlation between preferring the role you are in and well-being. The homemaker who is at home because she likes that “job,” because it meets her own desires and needs, tends to feel good about her life. The woman at work who wants to be there also rates high in well-being.
    Grace Baruch (20th century)

To be sure, nothing is more important to the integrity of the universities ... than a rigorously enforced divorce from war- oriented research and all connected enterprises.
    Hannah Arendt (1906–1975)

The great question that has never been answered, and which I have not yet been able to answer, despite my thirty years of research into the feminine soul, is “What does a woman want?” [Was will das Weib?]
    Sigmund Freud (1856–1939)
