Institute of Bioscience
On 9 February 1995, the Senate supported the idea of establishing Universiti Pertanian Malaysia Research Institute with the aim for it to organise research and development programmes in line with the corporate plan of Universiti Pertanian Malaysia.
The Committee on Education Planning under the Ministry of Education Malaysia in its 131 st Meeting held on 27 April 1996, approved the proposal for the establishment of Institute of Bioscience, UPM. The institute has developed the existing units into five laboratories, each laboratory has two main functions, i.e. doing researchs and providing the Service and Facility Unit.
Institute of Advanced Technology
The institute (ITMA) was established on 1 November 1999. ITMA provides leadership in research and development in Physical Science, Information Technology and Engineering. There are four laboratories under ITMA:
- Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology
- Green Engineering and Sustainable Technology
- Sensor Technology
- Spatial and Numerical Modelling
Institute for Mathematical Research
Four Research Laboratories have been formed, each led by a Head of Laboratory. The Laboratories are:
- Laboratory of Theoretical Mathematics
- Laboratory of Statistics and Applied Mathematics
- Laboratory of Mathematical Sciences and Applications
- Laboratory of Education and Mathematics Literacy
Halal Product Research Institute
Halal Products Research Institute (HPRI) was established in 2006 resulting from restructuring the Halal Food Institute to undertake research and development in the Halal products industry. Halal Products Research Institute aims to be a center of excellence in halal products research.
Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP)
INTROP was established in 2006 from the merging of the Institute of Tropical Biocomposite and the Rain Forest Academy. INTROP studies forest canopy management, bioresource variation and sustainability, and sustainable utilization of biocomposite products. INTROP has studies issues pertaining to forestry, wood/fibre resources, development of biocomposites, product standard, and commercialization.
