Famous quotes containing the words character and/or set:
“Consider the difference between looking and staring. A look is voluntary; it is also mobile, rising and falling in intensity as its foci of interest are taken up and then exhausted. A stare has, essentially, the character of a compulsion; it is steady, unmodulated, fixed.”
—Susan Sontag (b. 1933)
“When parents fail to set appropriate limits, children may feel more vulnerable at night: the aggressive urges that have not been tamed by day may be terrifying to a small child alone in the dark.”
—Cathy Rindner Tempelsman (20th century)
