Famous quotes containing the words universal, college and/or learning:

So having said, a while he stood, expecting
Their universal shout and high applause
To fill his ear; when contrary, he hears,
On all sides, from innumerable tongues
A dismal universal hiss, the sound
    Of public scorn.
    John Milton (1608–1674)

It is true enough, Cambridge college is really beginning to wake up and redeem its character and overtake the age.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

...I didn’t consider intellectuals intelligent, I never liked them or their thoughts about life. Margaret Anderson (1886–1973)
