Universal City (Los Angeles Metro Station)

Universal City Station is a heavy-rail subway station in the Los Angeles County Metro Rail system. It is located on Lankershim Boulevard, across from the entrance to Universal Studios, in the Los Angeles, California community of Studio City. This station is served by the Red Line.

Universal City station serves the nearby Universal Studios theme park, as well as the NBC Universal studio complex. Riders can cross the street and board the tram to go to City Walk and the theme park, as well as the Studio itself. A pedestrian tunnel was originally proposed by Metro but was ultimately scrapped because of Universal's reluctance to pay the growing costs of the project.

The station features a park and ride lot which makes this stop all the more convenient for anyone wanting to visit Universal Studios or one of the nearby Ventura Boulevard restaurants in Studio City. As a bonus, there are a few public bus lines that stop or terminate at the bus bays on the west side of Lankershim Boulevard, adjacent to the station while others are found by crossing to the east side of Lankershim.

The station, which is in the southeastern corner of the San Fernando Valley, is at the confluence of several neighborhoods: the far eastern end of Studio City (the station is actually wholly in Studio City), and the south end of West Toluca Lake and southwestern tip of Toluca Lake. Just southeast of the station, across the Ventura Freeway (U.S. Route 101) is the Cahuenga Pass, which is arguably a neighborhood as well, consisting of a strip of shops, restaurants and offices that follow US 101, but along Cahuenga Boulevard, which parallels the freeway through the pass.

Famous quotes containing the words universal, city and/or angeles:

The responsible business men of this country put their shoulders to the wheel. It is in response to this universal demand that we are founding today, All-American Airways.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)

    What life is best?
Courts are but only superficial schools
    To dandle fools:
The rural parts are turned into a den
    Of savage men:
And where ‘s a city from all vice so free,
But may be termed the worst of all the three?
    Francis Bacon (1561–1626)

Prejudices are useless. Call Los Angeles any dirty name you like—Six Suburbs in Search of a City, Paradise with a Lobotomy, anything—but the fact remains that you are already living in it before you get there.
    Clive James (b. 1939)
