The men the American people admire most extravagantly are the most daring liars; the men they detest most violently are those who try to tell them the truth. Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    Ye Mariners of England
    That guard our native seas!
Whose flag has braved a thousand years
    The battle and the breeze!
    Thomas Campbell (1774–1844)
