Famous quotes containing the word belief:
“It seems, Euphranor..., that there is nothing so singularly absurd as we are apt to think, in the belief of mysteries; and that a man need not renounce his reason to maintain his religion. But if this were true, how comes it to pass, that, in proportion as men abound in knowledge, they dwindle in faith?”
—George Berkeley (16851753)
“The disaster ... is not the money, although the money will be missed. The disaster is the disrespectthis belief that the arts are dispensable, that theyre not critical to a cultures existence.”
—Twyla Tharp (b. 1941)
“My belief is that science is to wreck us, and that we are like monkeys monkeying with a loaded shell; we dont in the least know or care where our practically infinite energies come from or will bring us to.”
—Henry Brooks Adams (18381918)
