Government Once More
The UNC won an outright victory in the 2010 general election on 24 May, and Persad-Bissessar was appointed as the first ever female Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago. The UNC won a majority of 21 seats but they ran as a coalition with the Congress of the People (winning 6 seats), and the Tobago Organization of the People (winning 2 seats, both of Tobago's seats), giving the coalition a total of 29 seats. Since assuming office onm May 24th, there has been an almost weekly allegation and sometimes sound proof of corruption, nepotism and other scandals. Racial tensions being at an all time high, an ex-FIFA executive under FBI bribery investigations ironically holding a key post such such Minister if National Security, ministers with allegedly fake doctorates, the favoring of corrupt party financiers currently facing extradition to the United States; along with myriads of other unfavorable governing practices, have resulted in a public outcry for their removal.

Famous quotes containing the word government:
“No Government can be long secure without a formidable Opposition. It reduces their supporters to that tractable number which can be managed by the joint influences of fruition and hope. It offers vengeance to the discontented, and distinction to the ambitious; and employs the energies of aspiring spirits, who otherwise may prove traitors in a division or assassins in a debate.”
—Benjamin Disraeli (18041881)
