United Kingdom European Constitution Referendum - Party Positions On Constitution

Party Positions On Constitution

As with the 1975 vote, there is a broad range of left and right wing parties in the No camp. In the February 1974 general election, Conservative right-winger Enoch Powell supported Labour's calls for a referendum and for a "no" vote, even calling on Conservative voters to vote Labour to ensure the vote took place. This time, the Conservative and other right-wing/Eurosceptic parties share their opposition to the treaty with Leftist parties who believe that the treaty will cement the Classical reCapitalist economic model that they believe the EU follows.

Famous quotes containing the words party, positions and/or constitution:

At every party there are two kinds of people—those who want to go home and those who don’t. The trouble is, they are usually married to each other.
    Ann Landers (b. 1918)

An ... important antidote to American democracy is American gerontocracy. The positions of eminence and authority in Congress are allotted in accordance with length of service, regardless of quality. Superficial observers have long criticized the United States for making a fetish of youth. This is unfair. Uniquely among modern organs of public and private administration, its national legislature rewards senility.
    John Kenneth Galbraith (b. 1908)

Without the Constitution and the Union, we could not have attained the result; but even these, are not the primary cause of our great prosperity. There is something back of these, entwining itself more closely about the human heart. That something, is the principle of “Liberty to all”Mthe principle that clears the path for all—gives hope to all—and, by consequence, enterprize [sic], and industry to all.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)
