Northern Ireland Assembly Constituencies
There are 18 Northern Ireland Assembly Constituencies: 4 borough (for Belfast) and 14 county constituencies elsewhere (see below).
Each elects 6 MLAs to the 108 member NI Assembly by means of the Single Transferrable Vote system. Assembly Constituency boundaries are usually linked to their House of Commons equivalents (which also are 18 in number, although they only elect 1 MP to serve).
The constituencies below are not used for the election of members to the 26 district councils.

Famous quotes containing the words northern, ireland and/or assembly:
“Warmest climes but nurse the cruelest fangs: the tiger of Bengal crouches in spiced groves of ceaseless verdure. Skies the most effulgent but basket the deadliest thunders: gorgeous Cuba knows tornadoes that never swept tame northern lands.”
—Herman Melville (18191891)
“Out of Ireland have we come,
Great hatred, little room
Maimed us at the start.
I carry from my mothers womb
A fanatics heart.”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
“That man is to be pitied who cannot enjoy social intercourse without eating and drinking. The lowest orders, it is true, cannot imagine a cheerful assembly without the attractions of the table, and this reflection alone should induce all who aim at intellectual culture to endeavor to avoid placing the choicest phases of social life on such a basis.”
—Mrs. H. O. Ward (18241899)
