Ulrich Wegener - Early Life

Early Life

Wegener's first military experience was when he was conscripted into the Luftwaffe as a 15 year old during the final days of WW2. As a result of this he spent a brief period as a prisoner in a US POW camp at the end of the war. In the early 1950s Wegener was arrested for the illegal distribution of dissident pamphlets within East Germany and was imprisoned for one year. In 1952 Wegener moved to West Germany and participated in entrance examinations for the Officer Candidate School of the German Armed Forces.

Famous quotes related to early life:

Many a woman shudders ... at the terrible eclipse of those intellectual powers which in early life seemed prophetic of usefulness and happiness, hence the army of martyrs among our married and unmarried women who, not having cultivated a taste for science, art or literature, form a corps of nervous patients who make fortunes for agreeable physicians ...
    Sarah M. Grimke (1792–1873)
