It is a non-departmental public body of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport: disbursing Government funding and acting as the statutory distributor of National Lottery grants.
It is under the direction of UK Sport's management board. The board is chaired by Sue Campbell; first appointed in 2003, her current four year term runs until 2013. Four organisations fulfil roles for the four individual nations: Sport England, sportscotland, Sport Wales and Sport Northern Ireland.
The headquarters is situated near University College London, near the British Museum, and south of the main railway stations. It is opposite Russell Square tube station, off the A4200.

Famous quotes containing the word structure:
“Im a Sunday School teacher, and Ive always known that the structure of law is founded on the Christian ethic that you shall love the Lord your God and your neighbor as yourselfa very high and perfect standard. We all know the fallibility of man, and the contentions in society, as described by Reinhold Niebuhr and many others, dont permit us to achieve perfection.”
—Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
“Communism is a proposition to structure the world more reasonably, a proposition for changing the world. As such, we have to analyze it and, if we deem it reasonable, act upon it.”
—Friedrich Dürrenmatt (19211990)
“Agnosticism is a perfectly respectable and tenable philosophical position; it is not dogmatic and makes no pronouncements about the ultimate truths of the universe. It remains open to evidence and persuasion; lacking faith, it nevertheless does not deride faith. Atheism, on the other hand, is as unyielding and dogmatic about religious belief as true believers are about heathens. It tries to use reason to demolish a structure that is not built upon reason.”
—Sydney J. Harris (19171986)
