Treponema Pallidum

Treponema pallidum is a Gram-negative spirochaete bacterium with subspecies that cause treponemal diseases such as syphilis, bejel, pinta and yaws. The treponemes have a cytoplasmic and outer membrane. Using light microscopy treponemes are only visible using Dark field illumination.
