Famous quotes containing the words relation, centrifugal and/or force:

Any relation to the land, the habit of tilling it, or mining it, or even hunting on it, generates the feeling of patriotism. He who keeps shop on it, or he who merely uses it as a support to his desk and ledger, or to his manufactory, values it less.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Travel is like adultery: one is always tempted to be unfaithful to one’s own country. To have imagination is inevitably to be dissatisfied with where you live. There is in men, as Peter Quennell said, “a centrifugal tendency.” In our wanderlust, we are lovers looking for consummation.
    Anatole Broyard (1910–1990)

Yet time and space are but inverse measures of the force of the soul. The spirit sports with time.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
