Tiberius II Constantine - Family

Family

Originally betrothed as a young man to the daughter of Ino, Tiberius eventually married Ino after the deaths of her daughter and husband. She took on the name Anastasia in 578 after his accession to the purple. They had three children together, one of whom died before Tiberius was created Caesar in 574. Of his other two, both daughters, Constantina was married to Tiberius’s successor, Maurice, while the other, Charito, was married to Germanus. His wife and two daughters all outlived him.

Famous quotes containing the word family:

The touchstone for family life is still the legendary “and so they were married and lived happily ever after.” It is no wonder that any family falls short of this ideal.
    Salvador Minuchin (20th century)

There are one or two rules,
    Half-a-dozen, maybe,
    That all family fools,
    Of whatever degree,
Must observe if they love their profession.
    Sir William Schwenck Gilbert (1836–1911)

The law is equal before all of us; but we are not all equal before the law. Virtually there is one law for the rich and another for the poor, one law for the cunning and another for the simple, one law for the forceful and another for the feeble, one law for the ignorant and another for the learned, one law for the brave and another for the timid, and within family limits one law for the parent and no law at all for the child.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
