Voeckler is known for displaying a particularly wide variety of facial expressions while racing, especially when producing vigorous efforts. They range from grimaces of pain to sticking out the tongue and many other mimics, and is arguably a component of his notoriety. In August 2011, Voeckler raced on his bike against a horse in an exhibition contest, and lost.
