American Pilot Episode
A pilot episode was filmed of an American version of The Young Ones, titled Oh, No! Not THEM! It featured Nigel Planer as Neil and Jackie Earle Haley, and had a claymation opening credit sequence. Fox did not pick up the series. It was produced by David Mirkin.
Robert Llewellyn wrote in his book The Man in the Rubber Mask (1994):
The Young Ones was taken over the Atlantic in the mid eighties, and Nigel was the only member of the British cast to go. He had experienced a fairly hideous time, worried sick that he was going to have to stay there for six years with a group of people he hated who managed to make The Young Ones into a sort of grubby Benny Hill Show. He was hugely relieved when the pilot was a flop and he was released from his contract.Read more about this topic: The Young Ones (TV series)
Famous quotes containing the words american, pilot and/or episode:
“... many American Jews have a morbid tendency to exaggerate their handicaps and difficulties. ... There is no doubt that the Jew ... has to be twice as good as the average non- Jew to succeed in many a field of endeavor. But to dwell upon these injustices to the point of self-pity is to weaken the personality unnecessarily. Every human being has handicaps of one sort or another. The brave individual accepts them and by accepting conquers them.”
—Agnes E. Meyer (18871970)
“Whenever the weather licks the pilot instead of him lickin the weather, hes finished. The first time makes the second time easier. And the first thing he knows, hes in trouble when the weather is perfect.”
—Frank W. Wead (1895?1947)
“Youth is the period in which a man can be hopeless. The end of every episode is the end of the world. But the power of hoping through everything, the knowledge that the soul survives its adventures, that great inspiration comes to the middle-aged.”
—Gilbert Keith Chesterton (18741936)
