- In The Sopranos episode "Two Tonys", mob boss Tony Soprano — who is attracted to his psychiatrist (Dr. Jennifer Melfi), admires the film's star (Nick Nolte) and (despite having numerous comares) will never leave his wife — relates closely to Nolte's Tom Wingo character. After watching the film, Soprano sends Dr. Melfi a gift basket filled with Tide (brand) detergent and upscale bath products with a card malapropriately identifying the sender as: "Your Prince of Tide."
- In the Arrested Development episode "Sword of Destiny", Tobias Fünke acts out Barbra Streisand's role in The Prince of Tides.
- The Simpsons episode "Fear of Flying" deals with Marge's attempts to find the source of her aviophobia and she meets with a psychiatrist. Toward the end of the episode Marge calls the psychiatrist "Lowenstein," although her name is Dr. Zweig.
