Thalangara
Thalanagara is a predominantly Muslim area of Kasaragod, the district headquarters of the Kasaragod district in the South Indian state of Kerala. It is most famous for housing the Malik Deenar Jama Masjid and Dargah, where Malik Deenar, an Islamic missionary who brought Islam to the South-west coast of India during the lifetime of Muhammad. The area is dependent on money sent home from ex-pat workers and most of the families in Thalangara will have a few family members working in the Persian Gulf, particularly Dubai. The major areas of Thalangara are Padinhar, Kunnil, Kadavath (means Ferry Stand) Khazilane, Nuppadamail, Bangod, Theruvath (means street in Malayalam) etc. The areas of Thalangara consist of smaller mohallas (localities) and each locality has its own mosque and madrassa. Most of the people are conservative and take religious education quite seriously. Thalangara promotes islamic missionary work by providing land for the constructional of many religious institution.Malik Deenar Islamic Academy is the prominent religious institution locates at bank of Chandrigari river. There are some great views of the Arabian sea from the Malik Deenar masjid that lies atop a hill. Talangara also houses the oldest and the biggest hospital, The Malik Dinar Charitable Hospital of Kasargod district, which was established in 1970 by Janab KS Abdullah. This is also an educational centre of Kasaragod, with a School of Nursing, college of Nursing, B Pharm and DPharm colleges.
