Terminology of Dao/do
The translation to English of the Chinese chádào or Japanese chadō is a difficult task, as the second character in both terms can be read literally as way or road; but is also found in the name of certain martial arts and philosophical terms. Read in the latter way, a more accurate translation would be path or principle. The most commonly used and easy to express translation however, is "tea ceremony". Another term is "teaism", although this term is generally used mostly to refer to the Japanese paradigm. Similar terms are "tea arts" and "tea culture" and Teaism. While the word lore is usually not used in this context, another term used is "tea lore".
