Tax Brackets in Canada
Canada's federal government has the following tax brackets for the 2012 tax year (all in Canadian dollars). Note that the "basic personal amount" of $10,527 effectively means that income up to this amount is not subject to tax, although it is included in the calculation of taxable income.
| Taxable income | Tax on this income |
|---|---|
| $0–$10,527 | Nil |
| $10,528–$42,707 | 15% |
| $42,708–$85,414 | 22% |
| $85,414–$132,406 | 26% |
| Over $132,406 | 29% |
Each province adds their own tax on top of the federal tax.

Famous quotes containing the words tax and/or canada:
“Parents are used to being made to feel guilty about...their contribution to the population problem, the school tax burden, and declining test scores. They expect to be blamed by teachers and psychologists, if not by police. And they will be blamed by the children themselves. It is hardy a wonder, then, that they withdraw into what used to be called permissiveness but is really neglect.”
—C. John Sommerville (20th century)
“I see Canada as a country torn between a very northern, rather extraordinary, mystical spirit which it fears and its desire to present itself to the world as a Scotch banker.”
—Robertson Davies (b. 1913)
