Taranaki War

There have been two conflicts known as the Taranaki War:

  • The First Taranaki War (1860–1861)
  • The Second Taranaki War (1864–1866)

Both conflicts are so named because they took place in the Taranaki region, on the North Island of New Zealand. A third conflict, Titokowaru's War (1868 – 1869) also took place in Taranaki.

Famous quotes containing the word war:

“This is no war for domination or imperial aggrandisement or material gain.... It is a war ... to establish, on impregnable rocks, the rights of the individual and it is a war to establish and revive the stature of man.”
    —Winston Churchill (1874–1965)
