Neighborhood of Atlanta
In addition to Auburn Avenue itself, the surrounding neighborhood, also called Sweet Auburn is one of 242 officially recognized neighborhoods of Atlanta. It is bounded by:
- Freedom Parkway and the Old Fourth Ward (formerly the separate Bedford Pine neighborhood) on the north
- Boulevard and the Old Fourth Ward on the east
- the MARTA East-West line and the Oakland and Grant Park neighborhoods on the south, and
- the Downtown Connector and Downtown Atlanta on the west
Sweet Auburn used to be two separate neighborhoods: Grady/Antoine Graves (the Grady Homes housing project) and Butler Street.

Famous quotes containing the words neighborhood of and/or neighborhood:
“The paid wealth which hundreds in the community acquire in trade, or by the incessant expansions of our population and arts, enchants the eyes of all the rest; the luck of one is the hope of thousands, and the bribe acts like the neighborhood of a gold mine to impoverish the farm, the school, the church, the house, and the very body and feature of man.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“I do not like forced integration.... I do not like forced anything.... as a youngster I lived in a white neighborhood with a white neighbor next door. We would go to them, they would go to us. If they had anything, we had it. We lived just like one. We didnt think about no integration.”
—Ruby Middleton Forsythe (b. 1905)
