Surf Ballroom - Winter Dance Party Tribute

Winter Dance Party Tribute

Each February 2, since the 1979 twentieth anniversary of the original "Winter Dance Party" concert, the Surf Ballroom hosts a "Winter Dance Party" tribute show. The next day, a memorial service in Clear Lake officially honors the February 3 anniversary of the deaths of the three musicians.

Famous quotes containing the words winter, dance, party and/or tribute:

    It was a green world,
    Unchanging holly with the curled
    Points, cypress and conifers,
All that through the winter bears
    Coarsened fertility against the frost.
    Philip Larkin (1922–1986)

Shall we go dance the hay, the hay?
    Never pipe could ever play
    Better shepherd’s roundelay.
    Nicholas Breton (1542–1626)

What is the disease which manifests itself in an inability to leave a party—any party at all—until it is all over and the lights are being put out?... I suppose that part of this mania for staying is due to a fear that, if I go, something good will happen and I’ll miss it. Somebody might do card tricks, or shoot somebody else.
    Robert Benchley (1889–1945)

Although my parents have never been the kind to hint around about grandchildren, I can think of no better tribute to them than giving them some.... I can’t help thinking that the cycle is not complete until I can introduce them to a child of their child. And I can think of no better comfort when they are gone than to know that something of them lives on, not only in me but in my children.
—Anne Cassidy. “Every Child Should Have a Father But....,” McCall’s (March 1985)
