Factory Automation in Sugar Refineries

As in many other industries factory automation has been promoted heavily in sugar refineries in recent decades. Only for certain special machines such as the centrifuges in the sugar house decentralized PLCs are used for security reasons.

Famous quotes containing the words factory, automation and/or sugar:

Baltimore lay very near the immense protein factory of Chesapeake Bay, and out of the bay it ate divinely. I well recall the time when prime hard crabs of the channel species, blue in color, at least eight inches in length along the shell, and with snow-white meat almost as firm as soap, were hawked in Hollins Street of Summer mornings at ten cents a dozen.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)

Besides black art, there is only automation and mechanization.
    Federico García Lorca (1898–1936)

The sugar maple is remarkable for its clean ankle. The groves of these trees looked like vast forest sheds, their branches stopping short at a uniform height, four or five feet from the ground, like eaves, as if they had been trimmed by art, so that you could look under and through the whole grove with its leafy canopy, as under a tent whose curtain is raised.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
