Stream Cipher - Linear Feedback Shift Register-based Stream Ciphers

Linear Feedback Shift Register-based Stream Ciphers

Binary stream ciphers are often constructed using linear feedback shift registers (LFSRs) because they can be easily implemented in hardware and can be readily analysed mathematically. The use of LFSRs on their own, however, is insufficient to provide good security. Various schemes have been proposed to increase the security of LFSRs.

Famous quotes containing the words shift and/or stream:

    They shift coffee-houses and chocolate-houses from hour to hour, to get over the insupportable labour of doing nothing.
    Richard Steele (1672–1729)

    When cats run home and light is come,
    And dew is cold upon the ground,
    And the far-off stream is dumb,
    And the whirring sail goes round,
    And the whirring sail goes round;
    Alone and warming his five wits,
    The white owl in the belfry sits.
    Alfred Tennyson (1809–1892)
