Stone Poneys - Stone Pony Nightclub

Stone Pony Nightclub

The legendary nightclub that helped launch the careers of Southside Johnny, Jon Bon Jovi, and others – The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey – was founded in February 1974, nine months before Linda Ronstadt's major breakthrough album Heart Like A Wheel was released. Although this was many years after the Stone Poneys hit "Different Drum" was on the charts, Ronstadt's Top 20 hit version of "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" was released in the same time period. Whether or not the naming of the nightclub is related to this band is uncertain; the history of the nightclub as related on their website states that the name came to one of the founding owners in a dream.

Famous quotes containing the words stone and/or nightclub:

“Give me the resurrection of the body!” said Dukes. “But it’ll come in time, when we’ve shoved the cerebral stone away a bit, the money and the rest. Then we’ll get a democracy of touch, instead of a democracy of pocket.”
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

Fifty million Frenchmen can’t be wrong.
    —Anonymous. Popular saying.

Dating from World War I—when it was used by U.S. soldiers—or before, the saying was associated with nightclub hostess Texas Quinan in the 1920s. It was the title of a song recorded by Sophie Tucker in 1927, and of a Cole Porter musical in 1929.
