Steve Butler - Retirement

Retirement

Butler retired from racing determined to make a clean break from the sport. He understood this would be very difficult and was aware that many retiring drivers are eventually tempted to return to the cockpit. In response, Butler developed a three-step retirement strategy:

  • Focus on new engineering career challenges.
  • Devote time to family.
  • Avoid temptations that could result from hanging out at race tracks.

Butler's approach has apparently succeeded; 19 years after his decision to retire he has yet to show any signs of regret.
