Famous quotes containing the words squire and/or roses:

    There now are no Squire Westerns as of old;
    And our Sophias are not so emphatic,
    But fair as then, or fairer to behold.
    We have no accomplish’d blackguards, like Tom Jones,
    But gentlemen in stays, as stiff as stones.
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)

    To Him, the painted swallow,
    to Him, the lump of amber,
    to Him, the boy and girl
    with roses and love-knots,
    to Him, the little cat
    to play beneath the Manger....
    Hilda Doolittle (1886–1961)
