Squash (sport) - Wider Acceptance

Wider Acceptance

Squash has been featured regularly at the multi-sport events of the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games since 1998. Squash is also a regular sport at the Pan American Games since 1995. Squash players and associations have lobbied for many years for the sport to be accepted into the Olympic Games, with no success to date. Squash narrowly missed being instated for the 2012 London Games and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games (missed out again as the IOC assembly decided to add golf and rugby sevens to the Olympic programme). At the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires, the IOC will vote on whether to include one of the following sports in the program: floorball, baseball, karate, roller sports, softball, sport climbing, squash, wakeboarding or wushu.

Famous quotes containing the words wider and/or acceptance:

If the hero is not a person, the emblem
Of him, even if Xenophon, seems
To stand taller than a person stands, has
A wider brow, large and less human
Eyes and bruted ears: the man-like body
    Of a primitive.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

Nothing, neither acceptance nor prohibition, will induce a child to stop swearing overnight. Teach your child respect for himself and others, that profanity can hurt, offend, and disgust, and you’ll be doing the best you can...And save your parental giggling over mispronounced curses for after the children’s bedtime.
    Jean Callahan (20th century)
