Spencer Davis

Spencer Davis

Spencer David Nelson Davies (born 17 July 1939) is a British musician and multi-instrumentalist, and the founder of the 1960s rock band The Spencer Davis Group. Davis dropped the E in Davies and became Davis because in England and in the US his last name was pronounced "Daveys" and not Davis as in the Welsh pronunciation.

Famous quotes containing the words spencer and/or davis:

Hero-worship is strongest where there is least regard for human freedom.
    —Herbert Spencer (1820–1903)

Man is by nature a pragmatic materialist, a mechanic, a lover of gadgets and gadgetry; and these are qualities that characterize the “establishment” which regulates modern society: pragmatism, materialism, mechanization, and gadgetry. Woman, on the other hand, is a practical idealist, a humanitarian with a strong sense of noblesse oblige, an altruist rather than a capitalist.
    —Elizabeth Gould Davis (b. 1910)
