The Special Reconnaissance Regiment or SRR is a Special Forces unit of the British Armed Forces. It was established on 6 April 2005 and is part of the United Kingdom Special Forces (UKSF) under command Director Special Forces, Special Boat Service (SBS) and the Special Forces Support Group (SFSG).
The SRR was formed to meet a demand for a special reconnaissance capability identified in the Strategic Defence Review New Chapter. The regiment conducts a wide range of classified activities related to covert surveillance and reconnaissance. The SRR draws its personnel from existing units and can recruit volunteers from serving male and female members of all the United Kingdom's Armed Forces.

Famous quotes containing the words special and/or regiment:
“Myths, as compared with folk tales, are usually in a special category of seriousness: they are believed to have really happened, or to have some exceptional significance in explaining certain features of life, such as ritual. Again, whereas folk tales simply interchange motifs and develop variants, myths show an odd tendency to stick together and build up bigger structures. We have creation myths, fall and flood myths, metamorphose and dying-god myths.”
—Northrop Frye (19121991)
“Christians would show sense if they dispatched these argumentative Scotists and pigheaded Ockhamists and undefeated Albertists along with the whole regiment of Sophists to fight the Turks and Saracens instead of sending those armies of dull-witted soldiers with whom theyve long been carrying on war with no result.”
—Desiderius Erasmus (c. 14661536)
