Human Uses
Spanish moss has been used for various purposes, including building insulation, mulch, packing material, mattress stuffing, and fiber. In the early 1900s it was used commercially in the padding of car seats. In 1939 over 10,000 tons of processed Spanish moss was produced. It is still collected today in smaller quantities for use in arts and crafts, or for beddings for flower gardens.
Spanish moss is also known to have been worn by the women of the Timucua Indian tribe.
It is also used by some as the filling for traditional voodoo dolls.

Famous quotes containing the word human:
“Sinclair Lewis is the perfect example of the false sense of time of the newspaper world.... [ellipsis in source] He was always dominated by an artificial time when he wrote Main Street.... He did not create actual human beings at any time. That is what makes it newspaper. Sinclair Lewis is the typical newspaperman and everything he says is newspaper. The difference between a thinker and a newspaperman is that a thinker enters right into things, a newspaperman is superficial.”
—Gertrude Stein (18741946)
“Andrews: Do you love her?
Peter: A normal human being couldnt live under the same roof with her without going nutty. Shes my idea of nothing!
Andrews: I asked you a simple question. Do you love her?
Peter: Yes! But dont hold it against me. Im a little screwy myself.”
—Robert Riskin (18971955)
