Social Systems - Approaches of Parsons and Luhmann

Approaches of Parsons and Luhmann

In sociological systems theory there is a controversy what kind of structural elements a social system consists of. Famous quotes containing the words approaches of, approaches and/or parsons:

If I commit suicide, it will not be to destroy myself but to put myself back together again. Suicide will be for me only one means of violently reconquering myself, of brutally invading my being, of anticipating the unpredictable approaches of God. By suicide, I reintroduce my design in nature, I shall for the first time give things the shape of my will.
    Antonin Artaud (1896–1948)

Perfect happiness I believe was never intended by the deity to be the lot of any one of his creatures in this world; but that he has very much put in our power the nearness of our approaches to it, is what I steadfastly believe.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

Science is intimately integrated with the whole social structure and cultural tradition. They mutually support one other—only in certain types of society can science flourish, and conversely without a continuous and healthy development and application of science such a society cannot function properly.
    —Talcott Parsons (1902–1979)
