Sister College

Harvard University and Yale University in the USA and Oxford University and Cambridge University in the United Kingdom have a tradition of pairing their respective residential colleges or Houses with one another. Colleges that are paired are referred to as sister colleges, and have a ceremonial and symbolic relationship to one another. Students at one college can often find accommodation at their sister college should they be visiting the other University; this is especially relevant to Harvard and Yale students during the annual The Game.

Famous quotes containing the words sister and/or college:

Let me see, what am I to buy for our sheep-shearing feast? Three pound of sugar, five pound of currants, rice—what will this sister of mine do with rice? But my father hath made her mistress of the feast, and she lays it on.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

It is true enough, Cambridge college is really beginning to wake up and redeem its character and overtake the age.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
