Sinocentrism

Sinocentrism

Sinocentrism refers either to Han Chinese ethnocentrism (Chinese: 汉沙文主义, 漢沙文主義, Hàn shāwénzhǔyì), or to the ancient notion that China was the cultural center of the world (Chinese: 中国中心主义, Zhōngguó zhōngxīn zhǔyì). Within China, the former definition of sinocentrism is called "Han chauvinism," a term coined by Mao Zedong in 1956, and is considered separate from the latter definition.
