Simon Amstell - Early Years

Early Years

Amstell was born in Gants Hill, Redbridge, East London in 1979, to David and Tina (née Leventhal) Amstell. He was brought up in a Jewish family. He was educated at Beal High School, a state comprehensive school in Ilford. When he appeared on Family Catchphrase, his aunt Kim mentioned that he was the eldest of four siblings. His parents' divorce in the early 1990s has been a constant theme throughout his stand-up career, and he says that their decision, when he was a born, to circumcise him, had caused him a sense of great emotional as well as physical loss.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or years:

In the course of twenty crowded years one parts with many illusions. I did not wish to lose the early ones. Some memories are realities, and are better than anything that can ever happen to one again.
    Willa Cather (1873–1947)

In the United States, it is now possible for a person eighteen years of age, female as well as male, to graduate from high school, college, or university without ever having cared for, or even held, a baby; without ever having comforted or assisted another human being who really needed help. . . . No society can long sustain itself unless its members have learned the sensitivities, motivations, and skills involved in assisting and caring for other human beings.
    Urie Bronfenbrenner (b. 1917)
