History
The bridge was built in 1885 by James C. Carpenter. It was named after the Siegrist family who lived nearby.
The bridge survived Hurricane Agnes in 1972 with only minor damage. However, the Siegrist's Mill Covered Bridge, which weighed five tons, was ripped from its foundations and swept downstream on September 8, 2011, by flooding caused by remnants of Tropical Storm Lee. The bridge's siding, roof and some "structual members" will need to replaced. It is expected to cost $750,000 and the bridge to be reopened in November 2012.

“One classic American landscape haunts all of American literature. It is a picture of Eden, perceived at the instant of history when corruption has just begun to set in. The serpent has shown his scaly head in the undergrowth. The apple gleams on the tree. The old drama of the Fall is ready to start all over again.”
—Jonathan Raban (b. 1942)
