Shock (circulatory) - Signs and Symptoms

Signs and Symptoms

The presentation of shock is variable with some people having only minimal symptoms such as confusion and weakness. While the general signs for all types of shock are low blood pressure, decreased urine output, and confusion these may not always be present. While a fast heart rate is common, those on β-blockers, those who are athletic and in 30% of cases those with shock due to intra abdominal bleeding may have a normal or slow heart rate. Specific subtypes of shock may have additional symptoms.

Famous quotes containing the words signs and, signs and/or symptoms:

But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and I will multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt.
    Bible: Hebrew, Exodus 7:3.

[Christianity] endeavors equally to establish these two things: that God has set up in the Church visible signs to make himself known to those who should seek him sincerely, and that he has nevertheless so disguised them that he will only be perceived by those who seek him with all their heart.
    Blaise Pascal (1623–1662)

The human condition is such that pain and effort are not just symptoms which can be removed without changing life itself; they are the modes in which life itself, together with the necessity to which it is bound, makes itself felt. For mortals, the “easy life of the gods” would be a lifeless life.
    Hannah Arendt (1906–1975)
